and given to GWER as a keepsake of her

Oct: 22- 1910

Lady Louisa (Montefiore) de Rothschild, daughter of Abraham Montefiore and his second wife, Henrietta (Rothschild, 1791–1866), married Anthony de Rothschild (1810–1876), son of Nathan Mayer (1777–1836) and Hannah (Barent Cohen) Rothschild in 1840.

**From old days her family had been on the friendliest terms with many members of the          great house of Bedford. Lord Charles Russell (1807-1894) was a frequent visitor to             Aston Clinton, and in his son, Mr George Russell, she found a link with those traditions of the past. He was her constant visitor in London, and carried on a most charming and original correspondence in prose and in verse with her when she was in the country.**
